Theme: SCC invites congregation members and leaders to join us as we consider how God has/is working in our congregations today and how God is leading us into the future. For more information about 2017 sessions and speakers read Bios and schedule below
Meals/Registration: Registration deadline is July 7. Adult registration fee is $40/person by July 7th. Adult Late Registration is $50/person after July 7th. Registration for children’s programming and nursery (age 10 and under) is FREE. All meals are included with weekend registration. Please designate if you will attend the Mennonite Women’s Lunch on Saturday.
Lodging: SCC has reserved a block of rooms at The AmericInn Lodge & Suites in Hesston, KS. To reserve a double, non-smoking room for $75, call 620-327-2053 BY June 30th. 2017 Speaker Bios:
Abraham Ulises Arenas-Goossen has been a pastor at the Iglesia Buenas Nuevas Church in San Juan, Texas since 2013. Previously, Ulises served as worship leader for over 15 years in his hometown of Puebla, Mexico. He enjoys singing and plays several instruments. He is involved in the Missional Discipleship Initiative, Anabaptist Biblical
Institute (IBA), Iglesia Menonita Hispana (IMH), and is treasurer and youth leader of UCIM. Ulises lives in McAllen, Texas with his wife Megan and together they invest their lives to serve God. He loves photography and graphic design and actively uses these gifts in his ministry.
Pastor Carmen Salas and her husband, José, have been serving as pastors at Ministerios Vizión in Brownsville, Texas since 1998. They started as pastors at Centro Cristiano Vizión and were there for 12 years. Previously Carmen served as a youth leader, evangelist, and church planter in Mexico. She has helped in the community as a chaplain, going to hospitals, funerals, and serving as an outreach minister. She is a discipleship minister for leaders and pastors from Matamoros, Mexico and in The Valley of Texas. She is also teacher and director of UCIS, a Christian University that helps students from different congregations. Carmen works as the Breastfeeding Coordinator for the Health Department in Cameron county. She is the mentor of two pastors from UCIM. She is also a mother of 3 and grandmother of 6 beautiful grandchildren; 3 boys and 3 girls.
Pastor Omot Aganya has been working within the Christians’ fellowships as a senior pastor, churches planter, an evangelist, a discipleship minister, an outreach minister, a youth minster, a small group minister, a missionary, a Bible college professor; He has worked as a manager, a supervisor, and a team builder leader. He loves Gospel ministry and has done it all in a fast pace urban city, colleges’ campuses, in the suburb, in a rural country, and in the jungle. It doesn’t matter to him, what matters is people. The people of God and the lost souls are very matter to God and pastor Omot. He is very excited to serve God and His people. Pastor Omot Has a Doctor of Ministry degree from Bethel Seminary, Saint Paul, MN. Pastor Omot is married to Hanna Aganya. They have five children. You will love the grace of God on Omot’s life as he faithfully ministers to the people of God wherever God sends him. This time, he joinsSouth Central Mennonite Conference as a church planter in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jim Ostlund is a Kansas native who served at Eden Mennonite Church (KS) and Blooming Glen Mennonite Church (PA) prior to joining the team at Journey Mennonite Church. He has an undergraduate degree in music education from Bethel College (KS), and a masters degree in Youth, Family and Culture from Fuller Theological Seminary (CA). Jim is married to Jodi a Nurse Practitioner at the Hutchinson Clinic, and together they have two sons – Noah (9) and Ethan (7). In 2012 the Ostlunds moved back to Kansas to help begin Journey@McPherson; a growing campus of Journey that now meets in a partially remodeled supermarket building in McPherson, KS.
